There’s no looking back when luck is in your favor. The Venice Marathon witnessed a strange and dramatic turn when all the favorites to win the race ended up going the wrong way, and an unknown runner grabbed the first spot.
The runners ended up taking the wrong route while they were following a motorcycle guide. This blunder helped the runner Eyob Faniel to become the first Italian to win the race in 22 years.
Well, evidently luck seems to play a more significant role in the win.
Abdulahl Dawud, Gilbert Kipleting Chumba, Kipkemei Mutai and David Kiprono Metto were among the favorites who covered several hundred meters before realizing the error and turning back. They lost about two minutes.
Faniel, the winner, runs for the local Venice marathon club. He was around a minute behind the leaders at the time, but the wrong route gave him the opportunity to end up first. Mussa ended up second, and Tariq Bamaarouf was third.
P.S. – Mate, you seem to have luck showering on you!
