Still here! Great, looks like either you are a gore-hound or a bloodthirsty maniac. In either case, one thing that we can guarantee you is that these movies will be oddly satisfying and would quench your thirst for violence and gore.
You must have watched some horror movies such as Saw, Ring, Mirror, Hell raiser including the latest horror sensations The Conjuring and Stephen King’s IT. While some may have failed to give you goosebumps, few might have tickled your senses, but these five Japanese movies will leave you sleepless at night.
1. Ringu (1998) Dir. Hideo Nakata
A Japanese masterpiece that inspired The Ring in English, starring Naomi Watts.
2. Ju-On (2002) Dir. Takashi Shimizu
Divided into episodes, Ju-On tells the story of the ghosts of Kayako and her son Toshio, who were murdered by Kayako’s jealous husband. Ju-On too had a Hollywood remake.
3. Dark Water (2002) Dir. Hideo Nakata
This horror masterpiece is based on the themes of the spirit world disrupting the domestic sphere. This too couldn’t escape a Hollywood remake.
4. Kuroneko (1968) Dir. Kaneto Shindo
Although this will not scare much to have sleepless nights, you will enjoy watching this because of its interesting storyline. The movie deals with the origins of yurei, the Japanese equivalent of ghosts.
5. Noroi (2005) Dir. Koji Shiraishi
This is a spooky representation of a paranormal investigator who allegedly disappears while making a documentary on a cursed house in a small town.
Suggestion: Don’t watch them alone or you may end up sacrificing your soul.
